香港警察李忠志得知女儿芝于泰国旅游间莫名失踪，即亲赴泰国报警求助。负责案件的华人探员崔杰，应允让他一同调查，却想不到李忠志利用媒体呼吁市民提供线索。一条意外拍下芝被捉走的片段上传至警方网站，却被神秘删除。崔杰即连同好友兼同袍Tak同赴寻找片主，却遇神秘人马截足灭证，狭路相逢，展开追截并与之搏斗。李忠志与崔杰两人逐步调查，却发现案中有案，并开始意识到凶手背后的神秘势力非他们能对付……。这是一部典型的日本黑色幽默喜剧，影片的主人公佐平次是个骗子式的人物，影片描写他在江户时代环境恶劣的妓院里如何巧妙地施展骗术，在各种阶层的人物之间混饭吃的生存术来表现善良的有缺点的小人物。但是，这种笑是沉重的，伤感的。影片从始至终贯穿着日本大众喜闻乐见的单口相声，在相声间穿插着佐平次被扣打工还账，在艺妓馆里混成了人见人爱的宝贝，又偶遇幕府末期的政治家高杉晋作，为救被卖进妓院的少女，同意协助晋作策划去烧品川的英国领事馆的故事。被称作 “落语”的日本单口相声与佐平次的故事情节相佐相辅，构成一出超级古装讽刺喜剧。主演该片的两位演员弗兰基界、石原裕次郎是曾风靡日本影坛的大众明星。编剧是后来成为著名导演的今村昌平。因此给观众的印象特别深刻。。SYNOPSIS Urgently called, the police inspector has arrived in a hotel, and didn't find any crime, but noticed some strangenesses occurring there. (Strugatsky Brothers website) NOTES This is a crime / mystery thriller with surreal and psychedelic science fiction overtones based on a book Inspector Glebsky's Puzzle by the Strugatsky brothers. The screenplay was also written by the brothers and it differs from the book. The less you know about the movie the better starting point you have. The film is based largely on the mystery of what's happening to the people of Dead Mountaineer's Hotel. Is everything what it seems? Who's dead or who's not?。
