The screenplay was also written by the brothers and it differs from the book. The less you know about the movie the better starting point you have. The film is based largely on the mystery of what's happening to the people of Dead Mountaineer's Hotel. Is everything what it seems? Who's dead or who's not?。本片为岳枫与程刚联合导演，拍於1968年。故事描述，怪侠江丹枫（黄宗迅）从小父母兄弟都被土匪杀害，遂誓必杀尽此等败类。一次，江杀土匪沙如虎（魏平澳），沙临终时哀求江将遗物交予其妹秀秀（舒佩佩），江允之；秀得知兄之死讯，不胜悲伤，又知兄为江所杀，愤然拔刀将江砍伤，但她又后悔伤江，因其兄罪应该死，遂留江在家养伤。山寨盗首黄大霸（井淼）得悉江在沙家庄，派人杀江，却为江所败，江更在歹徒脸上用剑划十字。黄大怒，欲派人洗劫沙家庄，村长（沈涝）怕事，送黄三千两银子，但强盗依然来袭，江奋勇抵御强盗……。
