影片根据哈罗德·费雷德里克Harold Frederic (1856-1898)的小说改编，故事来自于真实的历史。作者曾经在童年的时期经历过美国的内战。1862年美国纽约州的秋天，有一名叫阿波内尔·比奇的养牛的农民，他内心固执、坚持自己的信念，因而坚决地反对内战而与自己的邻居以及政府决裂。。本片由罗马导演、倪匡编剧，拍於1980年，由著名武打红星吴元俊领衔主演。故事讲述某寺青年僧人「疯子」(吴元俊饰)，性格疯疯癲癲，行為全不符僧人规范。该寺主持玄明方丈却认為「疯子」与佛有缘，并因应其性格与气质，授以「癲罗汉拳」。「疯子」有了武功后，动輒出拳伤人，方丈只得将其逐出寺门……。Detective Philip Lovecraft lives in Los Angeles in the 1950s when an ambitious Senator is holding hearings, on Magic.
